I was on my way home when I passed by a jewelry shop, it was nearly Valentine’s Day so many jewelry shops, such as this one, were on sale. In their display window, pearls were their main eye-catcher, from the usual white pearls to the rare black pearls. Pearls are considered as classic gifts, because of their elegance and timeless beauty. Metaphorically, pearls also connote rarity, finery, admiration and valuable, making them one the most popular gifts given to women.
I went inside the jewelry shop curious to see what pearls are for sale. There were common types like Akoya pearls, which were perfectly round and white, of Japanese or Chinese origin. There were also black pearls, like the tahitian pearls, considered to be rarer than the akoya pearls, thus its rarity makes it more expensive. From the various jewelries made out of pearls, like necklaces and earrings, I could not resist the temptation and bought myself an early Valentine’s gift of lovely pearl earrings.
